Bookstore Pickups by Zodiac Sign (continued)

How to spot and seduce your favorite sign while browsing bestsellers

Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Try the "Self Help" aisle first. In particular, amble over toward "Relationships." You'll recognize them because everything will match -- from their jewelry right down to their belt and shoes. They'll be wearing a scent, too, but so lightly that you won't be aware of it until you're close. Pay attention to the titles they're scanning and you'll be able to tell whether they're single or involved -- and if so, the condition of their relationship. They're far too gracious to refuse a conversation, so don't be afraid to speak up. Be polite, though. Very polite.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
"Mysteries." "Suspense." That's where they'll be, looking for the latest novel by Patricia Cornwell or Dean Koontz, and hoping beyond all hope that Stephen King really hasn't stopped writing. They love mysteries because they like to solve things, so they enjoy puzzles, too. It's almost a given that they'll be wearing striking black and red clothing. To get their attention, you'll have to appeal to that love of mystery by fascinating them. Say something that will make them cock their head to the side, smile and ask what you really meant by that.

Are You Sexy?

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
Sagittarians don't just enjoy books -- they have love affairs with them. They especially adore their extensive collection of reference books, which allows them to find any information they need -- without a computer. They love traveling, too, so start there. Look for someone who's casually dressed. Chatting with them will be easy -- in any section. They're either planning to visit the subject of the book they're holding, or they're reminiscing. That's a good half-hour conversation right there. You may need to work harder in "Reference," especially if you know less than they do about the subject.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
Check out "Puzzles and Word Games." They consider their brain a muscle that needs exercise just like all the rest, so they tend to it similarly. They're absolutely fascinated with building things, which can include everything from a financial empire to a home. Visit the "Investments and Finances" aisle, and "Home Improvements," too. Your final clue: Even if they've just finished retiling their upstairs bathroom, they'll be dressed neatly. Your approach? Ask for directions -- to an aisle, a book or anything. Just keep asking questions until they get it, grin, and introduce themselves. Don't worry. It won't take long.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
If it's what everyone else is reading, they'll avoid it like the plague. Unless, to their great dismay, it's a sci-fi book that's somehow gotten into the mainstream. Needless to say, male or female, you'll find them in that aisle, looking entirely different from anyone you've ever seen -- which is just the effect they want. Definitely do your homework before attempting a conversation. Be sure you know who Terry Pratchett is and everything about Disc World and its inhabitants. If, by some amazing stretch of the imagination, they haven't yet read Pratchett, buy his latest paperback and write your name and number inside. They'll call.

Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)
"Music," "Art" and "Poetry." Not just the current titles, either. In fact, you'll have better luck looking for your Pisces in the aisles where the classics of all those genres are stacked. Oh, and don't forget about "Romance" -- because they certainly won't. Of course, if you weren't already pretty darned romantic yourself, you wouldn't be interested in one of these sentimental, nostalgic creatures to start with. Being so emotionally inclined, no one but your heart can tell you what to say when you set eyes on them. You'll know -- and when your eyes meet, they'll know, too.
