Overcome discouragement by riding the waves of expansion and contraction.

This fall is the season of dreams, but unfortunately not all of them will come true. Still, if you are clear about your desires, you have a good chance of receiving the love you now seek. You are tempted by the feeling that ideal love may be just around the next corner, with expansive Jupiter squaring nebulous Neptune on September 24. This unfounded optimism won't last, for you are quickly confronted with the truth of someone else's feelings as Venus -- the love planet -- bumps into passionate Pluto on September 25. Sweet Venus enters her home sign of relationship-oriented Libra on September 30, remaining there until mid-November. During these weeks, you will be more able to play the social games required to start up a new romance or rekindle a current flame. Be careful of what you think, for as mental Mercury enters magnetic Scorpio on October 2, your words take on heightened power. You can make progress toward fulfilling your desires through the middle of the month, but you might have to work extra hard to keep your feet on the ground around October 15, when Mercury squares spacey Neptune.

Be ready to shift gears and play for keeps as the Sun, Mars and Venus all shift into powerful Scorpio on October 23 and 24. Then, rein in your excess energy and overindulgences if necessary, for a powerful square between buoyant Jupiter and pessimistic Saturn can send you into an emotional tailspin. If you feel like a failure now, keep in mind that your current attitude will create your future. You cannot afford the luxury of being negative.

Watch your words carefully, for Mercury begins a 20-day retrograde phase on October 28 -- a time when misunderstandings abound. Reactivate an old romance or simply reconsider the direction a current relationship is taking. Although Mercury retrogrades can be hard on intimate relationships, this one begins with a conjunction to beneficent Jupiter. It's difficult to go wrong, unless you disregard the rules and take unnecessary risks.

The first few days of November bring great relief from a frustrating experience, but you must be ready to say "yes." Anything can happen during this time and it may be difficult to get a clear sense of your feelings until after November 8. When sensual Venus crosses intentions with stern Saturn on November 12, you may feel like love is far away, but being lonely won't last, for on November 17 Mercury turns direct and Venus wholeheartedly jumps into Sagittarius. Even in your current realistic frame of mind, you smile inwardly, knowing that better times are near.

Your romantic weather report continues to get brighter as the Sun enters jovial Sagittarius on November 22, followed by Jupiter on November 24. Jupiter only changes signs once a year. Jupiter is at home in his own sign Sagittarius again, pumping up our expectations in love. And again we are deflated as red hot Mars is thwarted by a square from Saturn on November 28. Mars and Mercury join the pack in adventurous Sagittarius on December 6 and December 8, respectively. Once more you are on the optimistic side of the equation, seeing romantic possibilities where they may not exist.

Your drive for excitement and adventure settles down as Venus enters rule-driven Capricorn on December 11. But Mars conjuncts Jupiter the very same day, offering hope and encouraging you to think big. The dilemma between enjoying physical pleasure and having self-discipline is quite problematic now. By December 15, after thinking it over, you may finally throw caution to the wind and say whatever is on your mind. Use the next few days to organize your holiday social events, for when the Sun conjuncts shadowy Pluto on December 18, nothing will be able to stop you from getting what you want. Just make sure that you really want it.
