Fall Television Picks

Must-See-TV based on your Sun sign

Fall's right around the corner, and that means new episodes of your favorite TV series, as well as brand-spanking new shows. Although tastes may vary even within one sign of the zodiac, cosmic themes do resonate with the traits of each sign. When it comes to TV, this means that the characteristics of particular signs will mesh better with specific genres. It doesn't mean that you will only like particular shows, because you're, say, an Aries -- it means that certain shows may stand out for you, if you're an Aries, because their themes resonate with how you see the world. Let's see what themes and shows will stand out for each sign.

Aries (March 21 to April 19)
If there's any sign that's looking for something cutting edge and that puts one in the hot seat, then it's Aries. Aries wants exciting, innovative television, as it likes to be physical, daring and, of course, first. Shows about mavericks or pioneers would appeal to Aries. For the fall lineup, we're looking at 'Prison Break' (FOX), 'House' (FOX), 'Veronica Mars' (CW), '30 Rock' (NBC) and 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip' (NBC).

Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
The idea of the common woman or everyday Joe/Jane stepping out of his or her comfort zone is a very Taurean theme. Taurus likes to be comfortable and have the finer things in life, like a cold beer in a soothing, luxurious bath. However, that doesn't make for good TV. Shows that prominently feature the idea of someone going out of their comfort zone, like Archie Bunker in 'All in the Family,' capture the essence of this sometimes stodgy sign. For this fall, these shows would be on Taurus's short list: 'Knights of Prosperity' (ABC), 'The Nine' (ABC), 'My Name is Earl' (NBC) and 'Family Guy' (FOX).

Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
Gemini love the thrill of meeting unusual people in their immediate environment and the razzle-dazzle of witty banter. Comedies or quirky dramas with a relatively small number of set-changes definitely get the goat of this on-the-go sign. These shows should slow down Gemini long enough to do only two things at once while watching them: 'Brothers and Sisters' (ABC), 'The Class' (CBS), 'Everybody Hates Chris' (CW), 'Smallville' (CW) and 'One Tree Hill' (CW).

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Cancers usually find either heightened amounts of tragedy or comedy at home and expect no less in their TV viewing. In contrast to Gemini's love of strangers connecting, Cancer wants to see families holding together despite the odds or the oddballs. Also, shows that center on the foibles of parenting have broad appeal to this sign. Fortunately, Cancers usually have a broad selection of these themes each year, and Fall 2006 is no exception: 'Notes from the Underbelly' (ABC), 'Supernanny' (ABC), 'The Simpsons' (FOX), 'King of the Hill' (FOX), 'Two and a Half Men' (CBS), 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' (CBS), 'Gilmore Girls' (CW), 'All of Us' (CW) and '7th Heaven' (CW).

Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Leos are no less sparing in their television about big drama, even if it's comedy, than they are in life. Leos tend to like television that has a central character who is either very dramatic, heroic, roguish or all of the above. A good dash of romance is always a big plus too, as the thrill and chase of love is very important to them. Fitting the leonine bill this fall is: 'Ugly Betty' (ABC), 'Help Me Help You' (ABC), 'Happy Hour' (FOX), 'Heroes' (NBC) and 'Friday Night Smackdown' (CW).

Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Someone should probably change the name of Virgo to Work-go. Frequently -- almost to a neurotic degree -- Virgos tend to focus on either work, their health or remaining pure. Shows that make one's job into an occupational hazard tend to appeal to them. Likewise, shows that combine issues of work with health -- as in a hospital -- leave even stronger impressions. When Virgos take a break from work (because they don't fully stop), they can look to the following for a laugh, cry or chuckle: 'Grey's Anatomy' (ABC), 'Numb3rs' (CBS), 'The Office' (NBC), 'ER' (NBC) and 'Scrubs' (NBC).
