Halloween is right around the corner, and what better way to get in the mood than to rent a scary movie? If you're looking for some interesting viewing material, check out these flicks. Be sure to have a healthy supply of candy apples, caramel popcorn and hot cider on hand ... fear has a frightening effect on the appetite!
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
Aries are famous for their drive to be number one. Taken to extremes, however, the Ram's ambition can have frightening consequences. Witness 'The Game,' directed by Howard Shore, in which Michael Douglas takes part in a role-playing game designed to test his physical and emotional resources. First prize? He keeps living. Second? He gets an all-expenses-paid funeral
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
Earthy Taurus has always had a special appreciation for Mother Nature. That's why director Robin Hardy's 'The Wicker Man' may have spooky appeal for this sign. The film takes place on a British isle where paganism is the predominant cultural force. When a Christian police officer comes to investigate the disappearance of a young girl, he gets a terrifying lesson in Wiccan justice.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
Born under the sign of the Twins, Gemini always appreciates a good movie involving doppelgangers. One of the scariest of them all is David Cronenberg's 'Dead Ringers.' Jeremy Irons plays twin celebrity gynecologists who get caught up in the wacky world of fame, sex, drugs and surgery. The horrifying storyline is strong enough to sustain even Gemini's small attention span.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Cancer embodies family and home. That's probably why 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning' will appeal to this sign. The prequel to the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' it shows how the backwoods Hewitt family became murderers and cannibals. Sure, Cancer may cover their eyes whenever Leatherface wields his chainsaw, but it's still a "family" movie.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Dramatic Leo loves everything to do with the stage, which makes Dario Argento's 'Terror at the Opera' a perfect viewing choice this Halloween. A serial killer is plaguing a modern production of Verdi's 'Macbeth.' The show must go on, however, even while the body count continues to mount. Stylized, suspenseful and over-the-top, this movie has everything a Lion is looking for in a horror flick.
