Rapper Lil' Kim was born Kimberly Denise Jones on July 11, 1975 in Brooklyn, New York. Her childhood was difficult and the independently-minded girl ran away from home as a teenager. This is far from the cozy family story traditionally associated with her Sun in Cancer, but Kim is anything but typical of her sign. Cancers are supposed to be warm and fuzzy, sweet, innocent and protective. But this girl of the streets had to be sturdy to deal with the hard times of her upbringing. She was born with Saturn -- the planet of limits and boundaries -- next to her Cancer Sun, a fitting symbol for a tough life. The Sun is frequently symbolic of the child-father relationship, and Kim's dad was so strict that she preferred life in the streets to living under his roof. Eventually, she met Christopher Wallace, the rapper known as The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls. He took her under his ample wing and helped set her life on a constructive course. He was a positive representation of Saturn, the support her emotional Cancer Sun needed.
Controlling Saturn in Lil' Kim's birth chart forms a tense 90-degree square with rebellious Uranus, the planet of surprise. This aspect reflects her difficulties with authority and the sudden shifts in her life. She split with her dad, lived outside the law, found safety with Biggie, and then lost it when he was murdered shortly after her career took off with the success of her album 'Hard Core.' She kept working -- a positive trait of a strong Saturn -- and came back stronger than ever with 'Notorious K.I.M.' that debuted as the number one R&B/Hip-Hop album. In spite of further success in music and as an actress, Kim got tangled up with the law and was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for perjury, another sudden turn in her turbulent life.

Lil' Kim may be as well known for her sexually provocative outfits as for her music. It's no surprise, then, that her Moon -- symbol of moods and habits -- is in bold, attention-demanding Leo. She was definitely made to be noticed. While Leo is dramatic, Venus and Mars are the planetary pair most commonly associated with sexiness. Kim has her Venus in Virgo and her Mars in Taurus. Virgo is sometimes considered prudish, but that's certainly not the case here. These planets of attraction and action align in a free-flowing trine in sensual earth signs, which is why she's so comfortable in her skin that she's willing to show so much of it. She's certainly a complex individual, but sexuality -- a complicated subject for most people -- is totally natural for her. No shy Cancer, Lil' Kim's Leo Moon shines through with power, creativity and a dynamic personality. She may be little, but she'll never be overlooked.
