Nicole Richie gained national attention as Paris Hilton's co-star in 'The Simple Life,' a "reality" show purporting to show two rich girls from Beverly Hills living and working with average Americans. The show launched the previously unknown Nicole into the national spotlight and made her a star. The thing about Nicole, though, is that she's famous for being famous. It's not singing, dancing, acting or comedic skills that have made her a tabloid favorite, but simple fame itself. Nicole, born September 21, 1981 in Berkeley, California, is the adoptive daughter of music superstar Lionel Richie. Her Sun is in Virgo and her Moon in its home sign of Cancer. The Moon, symbolizing family, emotions and eating habits, is quite sensitive here. Nicole's unknown birth time makes it impossible to pinpoint the degree of her Moon, but it's approximately 90-degrees from Saturn in her chart. This tense angle between the planet of restraint (Saturn) and that of fuel (the Moon) may be associated with her rumored eating disorder. Whether it has a specific clinical name or not, it's clear that Nicole could use a little more meat on her bones. Accepting nourishment, though, can be a challenge for Moon-Saturn individuals, as if deprivation becomes the norm and is, therefore, more comfortable than attending to one's biological needs. Venus, the planet of love, is in Scorpio, a lusty sign that can be found in people of all shapes and sizes. For some, its placement in the sign of emotional score-keeping means that habits can go from extreme self-indulgence (shopping) to self-deprivation (diet).
Nicole's Sun in the practical earth sign of Virgo is better known for modesty and healthy habits than Hollywood hell-raising. But reality is a bit skewed here due to a challenging square from fantasy-filled Neptune to Nicole's Sun. Neptune blurs the boundaries of reality, which can make it more difficult for her to take care of herself. Compassion, idealism and imagination are gifts of a Sun-Neptune connection, but seeing oneself clearly in the mirror is often difficult. It is, therefore, hard for us to know Nicole, just as it may be difficult for her to know herself. The images we see on television and in the tabloids are fleeting sketches of an unlikely star who may not be at ease with her celebrity. We can only hope that Nicole will apply some of her compassion to herself to ensure her physical and emotional well-being.
