Andre Agassi was not only a champion tennis player, but a man who was enormously popular with the sport's fans. He's one part down-to-earth Taurus -- a genuine, sincere guy -- and one part Moon-in-Aquarius rebel who brought a more modern look to the game.
Andre Agassi's long tennis career saw him evolve from a long-haired young rebel to a respected, follicle-challenged elder who retired as one of the game's greatest champions. Born April 29, 1970 in Las Vegas, Andre is a solid Taurus with the power of endurance and elements of agility, independence and flash as well. The earthy commitment of his Taurus Sun is reinforced by its close conjunction with Saturn, the planet of hard work and discipline. Whatever talents Andre brought to the game -- and they were many -- were honed through his famously challenging training sessions in the hot Las Vegas sun. Saturn adds seriousness, patience and a sense of strategy that enabled him to play world-class tennis against much younger men. Even when his career went into a prolonged plunge that dropped him from the rankings, he found the fortitude to pull himself all the way back to the top.
Mars is the planet of action, muscles and athletics. Andre's Mars is in versatile Gemini, the mobile sign of the Twins. This gave him the speed to play at the highest level and to adapt his game to changing conditions, making him a winner on all different kinds of courts. Venus, the planet of love and beauty, is conjunct Mars in Andre's chart, which shows the charm and winning smile that has always made him a fan favorite. Marriage-oriented Venus in the dualistic sign of Gemini also gave him two famous wives: Brooke Shields and Steffi Graf, both of whom were born with the Sun and the Moon in Gemini!
Agassi's early career image as a rebel wasn't so much about his behavior; he's never shown the terrible temper of players like John McEnroe or Jimmy Connors. It was more about his rock 'n' roll image; the long hair and non-traditional tennis clothes. Andre does have Uranus -- the planet of the rebel -- in a harmonious 120-degree trine with stylish Venus, suggesting a taste for the unconventional, but one that's easy for others to accept. His Moon -- the planet of emotions and feelings -- is in Uranus' home sign of Aquarius, which also indicates a person who does things in his own unique way. Yet, this friendly sign adds to the public perception of him as a very likeable guy. While strict Saturn on his Sun shows that Andre can be extremely hard on himself, his attitude and appearance have always excited tennis fans and only turned off the stodgiest defenders of its most conservative traditions. His popularity with the vast majority of the public has never waned and probably never will.
