Bobby Brown has gone from being an admired musical artist to one of the tabloid's most reliable headliners. This rebellious Aquarius, it seems, has turned his considerable abilities against himself, aided and abetted by complex emotional patterns tied to his Moon.
Bobby Brown left behind his first group, New Edition, to become a solo artist in the late 1980s. His innovative approach to R&B music made him a star, but by the mid-1990s he gained more publicity for his legal and marital problems than for his music. Born February 5, 1969 at 5:21 a.m. in Boston, Bobby has the Sun in Aquarius, the sign of the rebel. The originality of the Waterbearer may have served him well as a singer, but it seems to be more a source of chaos than comfort in his personal life. Bobby's Aquarius Sun is under pressure from the aggressive planet Mars, a tense ninety degrees away. This square aspect is astrology's most challenging relationship, especially with Mars in the super-heated sign of Scorpio. Bobby's impulses have earned him jail time on more than one occasion, and have pushed his career to the sidelines.
The good astrological news for his fans, though, is that the recuperative powers of his Mars in Scorpio may be even greater than his destructive urges. The key, perhaps, is his capacity for self-forgiveness. Neptune, the planet of faith, fantasy and escapism, was conjunct Mars when Bobby was born. This is often indicative of a person who is out of control, his actions (Mars) wandering without direction (Neptune). The mythological god of the seas is also associated with drugs, for which Bobby has gained more than his share of notoriety. This planet represents compassion as well, which is vital for recovery with a chart as critical as his.
The Moon is the primary feminine influence in a chart and connects to Bobby's relationships with women, especially with his wife Whitney Houston. The pressure of partnering with such a high profile woman is probably a big part of Bobby's story. His Moon is in critical Virgo and conjunct Pluto, the ruler of the underworld and a planet of power and control. Men with Moon-Pluto contacts are often attracted to powerful women, yet frequently fear them as well. This emotional conflict may be one source of Bobby's difficulties. Yet it's really not about Whitney, it's about him. Forgiving himself for the past and starting anew can really do wonders for him. When he can turn the practical qualities of his earthy Moon towards his work and combine them with the passion of Pluto, Bobby can get off the front page of the tabloids and back on top of the charts.
