Celebrity Astrology: Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie plays the irascible Dr. Gregory House on television, but is more of an anger averse sweetie pie than a terrible tyrant in real life. Since Hugh's a Gemini, the sign of the Twins, perhaps the character of Dr. House allows him to express a part of himself he's reluctant to express in real life.

Hugh Laurie, the English actor who has become famous in the U.S. playing Dr. Gregory House on the Fox TV series 'House,' is every bit as bright as his onscreen character -- but probably a lot nicer. Dr. House is a brilliant grouch with a cane that he wields along with his cutting wit and caustic comments. The mental gymnastics correspond nicely with Hugh's astrological chart, as he was born with the Sun in clever Gemini. This Mercury-ruled sign is renowned for its verbal skills and ability to adapt to any situation. This serves Hugh well as an actor who is required to change himself with every part he plays. But while Dr. House has a mean streak, Hugh appears to be more of a pussycat. Mars, the planet of anger or aggression, is sweetly coddled by a conjunction with loving Venus. Their union in the joyous sign of Leo is ideal for an actor whose job is to "play" a role, not to live it. When these planets pair up in a chart, charm and creativity usually flourish. The beauty of Venus bound to the dynamism of Mars is especially powerful in dramatic Leo.

An additional sign of sweetness and imagination comes from the compassionate planet Neptune, which forms powerful 90-degree squares to Hugh's Venus-Mars conjunction. This supersensitive planet's hook-up with Mars softens and diffuses anger. Individuals with this pattern can be so concerned about not harming others that they would rather sacrifice themselves or suffer in silence than show their anger. Expressing it through the fantasy world of acting is ideal. Neptune's square to Venus also indicates that Hugh is more concerned about being loved than he may let on. The opinions of others count heavily, which tends to make him a people pleaser. He is, however, no wimp -- as his Moon, symbol of emotion, is also in Leo, showing a strong sense of pride that can protect him when he's been too nice. Leo generally loves to be noticed, making performing natural for Hugh. Like a good Sun in Gemini, though, he is a multi-faceted personality. His karmic Lunar South Node is in the warrior sign of Aries, so he's no stranger to the heat of passion. Yet with his North Node, the point of spiritual integration, in gracious and sociable Libra, being sweet and accommodating is not a cop out, but his path to fulfillment in this life.
