Tobey Maguire was born with the Sun in watery Cancer, which fits the sensitive qualities he shows on-screen. But his Moon in independent Aquarius and a powerful connection between Mars, Jupiter and Uranus shows him to be more interested in surprises than safety.
Tobey Maguire was born with the Sun in Cancer on June 27, 1975. This sensitive water sign is often cautious, caring and self-protective. The crackly voice of the young actor shows this vulnerability, as do his puppy dog eyes. It's this obviously deep well of emotion that moves audiences to respond to his performances on film. As Homer Wells in 'The Cider House Rules' and Red Pollard in 'Seabiscuit,' Tobey was especially effective at evoking the sympathy of viewers. His feelings are so close to the surface that we can't help but be touched by them. But don't mistake these emotions for weakness. Tobey is a powerful person, and not just when he's wearing his Spider-Man suit. The primary piece of astrological evidence is a tough 90-degree angle square from Pluto to his Sun. This tiny but intense planet represents death and rebirth or metamorphosis. On one level, it describes Tobey's difficult childhood that found him moving often due to instability in the family. This left him feeling like an outsider -- a common effect of Pluto -- but also gave him the inner strength to totally transform his life.
The cuddly side of Tobey only tells part of his story. His birth chart reveals a cooler and more independent part of his personality as well. The sensitive qualities of his Cancer Sun are strongly contrasted by his Moon in Aquarius. The earth's satellite symbolizes emotions and is, in fact, Cancer's ruling planet. Its placement in Aquarius shows that Tobey may seem accessible on the surface but can be rather reserved. It's not a lack of feelings, but a need to think about them, to turn emotions into ideas, that's characteristic of this lunar placement. And while Cancer tends to be traditional, Aquarius is much more attracted to the cutting edge of discovery. An interest in breaking with the past appears to be strong in Tobey's chart. His Mars -- the planet of action and aggression -- is in pioneering Aries, which is excellent for an isolated superhero. Expansive Jupiter conjunct that Mars adds another level of strength, enthusiasm and athletic ability. These two "male" planets are harmoniously aligned with artistic Venus in dramatic Leo, so that Tobey knows how to turn up the heat while turning on the charm. Surprisingly, wild and crazy Uranus closely opposes Tobey's Mars. This reinforces his independent streak and suggests that the kind young man is really a rebel underneath it all. Mars-Uranus contacts indicate inventiveness and originality, but make some people less than cooperative. The actor is likely to surprise us in the future by taking risky roles and making news in unexpected ways. Tobey seems like a cute teddy bear of a guy, but it's clear from his birth chart that the excitement he brings to the screen is no act.
