Having an orderly computer desktop is half the battle in doing your work efficiently. If you want to organize your folders to maximum effect, give a little thought to feng shui fundamentals. They will serve as a powerful guide when trying to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative -- as far as assignments go, that is.

    Choose the Right Screen Saver
Your screen saver should be directly related to the work you would like to be doing. If you’re in an innovative, dynamic industry like entertainment, fashion or design, choose an image with bright colors and sharp angles, like a picture of the Pyramids of Giza at sunset. If your business is founded on trust and nurturing, such as nursing, customer service or child care, chose a screen saver that conveys warmth and reliability, like a family photo or a picture of your pet. Businesses related to research and analysis like the law, accounting or engineering can benefit from a circular image that commands attention, like a photo of the Full Moon or a target. Professionals who need strong communication skills (like writers, therapists and consultants) can benefit from water images, like a black-and-white photo of the Mississippi River or the Pacific Ocean. If your career is related to growth and development, like marketing, finance and sales, you should pick an image that depicts flourishing plants, like the rain forest or a field of sunflowers.

    Show Your True Colors
You can always change your screen saver to nurture your professional goals. For instance, if you need to make a public presentation, choose a screensaver with bright colors like red, orange and pink. Need to win somebody’s trust? Select an image with earth tones like brown, yellow and tan. To sharpen your intellect, pick a picture with lots of gray, white or pastel colors. A screen saver that has lots of dark colors like black, blue and charcoal is good for building self-confidence and heightening your intuition. Finally, an image with bright, energizing colors like green and purple is good when you want to start a project or develop new ideas.

Give Favorite Projects a Place of Honor
Projects that you enjoy belong in a folder at the top left corner of your screen. This is the Prosperity Corner; whatever you place here should grow and multiply. Letters of achievement also belong in this folder.

    Personal Files
Keep personal files in a folder at the top right hand corner of your screen. This is the spot that governs relationships. Putting a folder here will remind you to balance your personal and professional lives.

    Address Book
Keep your address book in the lower right corner of your desktop, which represents helpful people. Having an up-to-date list of business contacts will help you to create a pool of reliable, talented people upon whom to rely. This is also a good spot to put customer profiles.

    Resource Materials
Files that you refer to on a daily basis should be placed in a folder in the center portion of the bottom of your desktop. This spot governs your self-esteem. Drawing from this file on a daily basis will bolster your confidence and make it easier to face challenges.

    Dreaded Projects
Any products you dread should be placed on the lower left side of your desktop, which governs wisdom. By treating these jobs as learning experiences, they can strengthen your performance, rather than inhibit it.

    Clear Your Clutter
Keeping your desktop tidy and organized is the best feng shui cure of all. Go through your files on the same day every month, trashing ones you no longer need, backing up the ones you do and moving things around according to priority. A little upkeep will make a world of difference to your job success.
