Sanjaya: What's in a Name?

The Numerology of American Idol's Sanjaya Malakar

Sanjaya Malakar has become this season's unlikely reality TV star. The soft-spoken half-Indian crooner sang his way into the hearts of 'American Idol' viewers, as well as the judges, during the show's sixth season auditions, and his hair, er, his star, has continued to rise week after week despite the fact that his vocals have been, to steal a word from judge Simon Cowell's dictionary, "dreadful."

So why are people voting for him week after week? Some say the Indian-American population is rallying around him because 'Idol' has never had an Indian contestant before. Some blame Howard Stern for urging his fans to vote for him (with more than a little help from VoteForTheWorst.com) in order to ruin the show. Still others say rabid teenaged girls are voting because they find him cute. The answer is probably a combination of all three, but Numerology tells a story about Sanjaya as well.

Using Hans Decoz' Name Advisor, we took a look at the meaning behind Sanjaya Malakar's name.

The name Sanjaya Malakar is dominated by the number 2. People with this dominant number are often underestimated. They are often perceived as weak or incompetent, when really, they make decisions very carefully and will survive at all costs. On the negative side, these people can sometimes lack confidence and have a hard time being as aggressive as they need to be in certain situations. Above all, though, people dominated by 2 are survivors, a trait that could explain how Sanjaya comes out week after week, seemingly unaffected by the week before's negative reviews, sporting a new outrageous hairstyle and managing to get enough votes to make it through to the next showdown.

The name Sanjaya Malakar also has a base vibration of 5. The base vibration measures the overall tone and rhythm of the name, and in Sanjaya's case, it makes for a lot of charisma. People with this vibration are willing to take risks and get off the beaten path. Anyone who saw Sanjaya's 7-ponytail fauxhawk knows he fits that bill on both counts. Number 5 vibrations also manifest in a high-pitched energy that, when the individual has discipline and focus, means he or she is almost certainly bound for fame and fortune.

Clearly, Sanjaya's already gotten the fame part down. But will his 15 minutes extend to his becoming the next American Idol? That one's not in the fate of the numbers dominating his name; it's in the hands of the people who pick up their phones to call and text their votes each week.
